Finding My Way Back — One Morning at a Time
Summer pulled me in every direction. Now, as the season begins to shift and life seems to adjust back to routine for everyone — schools starting, stores switching the assortment — the fall is quietly sneaking up warm and cozy next to you, like a long lost friend, and I am slowly following the transition and finding my way back — one small ritual at a time.
There is something about the end of summer that feels like a quiet exhale.
Summer was full. Beautifully, wonderfully full — gatherings, travel, long evenings, family, plans layered on plans. I gave myself to all of it, and I am glad I did.
But somewhere in the middle of all that, my mornings disappeared.
Now, as the season begins to shift and life seems to adjust back to routine for everyone — schools are starting, stores are switching the assortment — the fall is quietly sneaking up warm and cozy next to you, like a long lost friend. And I am slowly following the transition, finding my way back one small ritual at a time.
The Quiet That Went Missing
I did not notice it happening at first. One morning I skipped my reading. The next, I made coffee in a rush and had it while I was running around doing stuff that was needed around the house. Then a week passed, and another, and the slow, intentional start to the day I had built so carefully over the years had quietly dissolved into the noise.
My mornings used to be mine. Truly mine, alongside my husband's morning. The house still, the light soft, a good cup of coffee in hand, and nothing asked of us yet. That unhurried hour is where I think, where I write, where I feel most like myself — sharing that precious moment side by side, him on his side of the bed, me on mine, slowly starting the day together, sharing thoughts, a quick check in, just the two of us before the world woke up.
And I had let it go without even really noticing.
Starting Over, Slowly
I have learned that you cannot rush your way back into a rhythm. Trying to reclaim everything at once usually ends in overwhelm and another abandonment. The all-or-nothing approach has served me well at times, but this time I want to follow the pace of nature, align to it better.
So this time — one thing. Just one thing to start.
For me, that one thing is always my morning coffee. Not because coffee is magic — though on some mornings it feels that way — but because it is a ritual with a beginning and an end. It asks me to stop, to be present, to hold something warm in my black and gold ceramic mug and do nothing else for a few minutes. The smallest possible act of intention, and somehow always enough to set the tone for everything that follows.
I have written before about how my morning coffee fits into intermittent fasting — how a single, perfectly brewed cup can be both indulgent and completely clean. That post still holds. The ritual has not changed. Only the pod has.
The Marker That Changes Everything
Every restart needs a marker — especially when one needs to start over now and then. A bit of life's struggle.
Mine, this year, is a pod.
The Nespresso Vertuoline Pumpkin Spice Coffee Cake capsule is not just a seasonal flavour — it is a signal. The moment I pull that first box off the shelf, something in me shifts. The warmth, the spice, the way it fills the kitchen with a scent that belongs entirely to this time of year. It tells me the season is turning, the pace is about to change, and the long sprawling days of summer are giving way to something quieter, more inward, more mine.
It is me saying: I see you, autumn. I am ready.
To Everyone Around My Table
If your routines have slipped and your mornings have gotten away from you — I understand completely. Summer does that. Life does that. And there is no shame in it.
Change works for some people all at once, and sometimes it has worked that way for me too. But this time, I am taking it bit by bit. One small thing. One morning. One cup.
The beautiful thing about a ritual is that it is always there waiting for you to come back. It does not hold a grudge. You simply return, make the coffee, sit down — and begin again.
The Nespresso Vertuo Next Premium is on the counter. The pumpkin spice coffee cake pods are in the drawer. The book is on the table. The morning is mine.
Come find yours.
The Nespresso Vertuoline Pumpkin Spice Coffee Cake capsules are a limited seasonal release — worth grabbing a few boxes when you see them. I brew mine in the Nespresso Vertuo Next Premium and drink it from my black and gold ceramic mugs, which lets the spice and the cake notes come through beautifully. If you are not yet a Vertuo household, this might be the season that changes that.
