A Morning Reset — After Everything Your Body Has Been Through

Years after giving birth, after surgeries, after all of it — your body still needs tending. I found something small that helps. A cup of Teami tea with Manuka honey, every other evening, and my mornings are gentler for it. And if not, I have the Smooth Move tea the nights between.

A Morning Reset — After Everything Your Body Has Been Through

Nobody really talks about what happens to your body years later.

Not in the immediate aftermath — there is plenty written about that. But years down the line, in your mid-forties, approaching fifty, when the dust has long since settled and life has moved on — your body is still quietly carrying everything it has been through. Pregnancy. Birth. The recoveries that followed. Surgeries that were necessary and that you do not need to explain to anyone.

Your body remembers. And regenerating it — truly rebuilding it — is not one thing. It is many small things, layered over time, each one part of a longer journey back to feeling well. This is one of those parts.

The Stomach Is the Last to Forgive

Of all the things I have noticed in this season of life, it is my digestion — as a part — that has been the most vocal. The most unpredictable. The most persistent in asking for attention. It has been there in the background for years — a low hum of discomfort that I could not quite ignore, no matter how much I tried to get on with things.

I want to be clear about something: I do not believe the gut is the whole story. Regenerating a complex body after everything it has been through is not a single fix. It is sleep, and movement, and what you eat, and how you manage stress, and the hormonal shifts that nobody prepares you for. Digestion is one thread in that. But it is a thread that, when it is pulled tight, affects everything else — and when it eases, you feel it across the whole picture.

One day, something shifted. I understood that I did not have to keep struggling with it the same way. That there might be something small I could do — not a solution, not a cure, but a little help.

Mornings used to feel like a battle. Before I had eaten anything, before the day had even properly started, there was already a kind of unsettled feeling — a heaviness, a sluggishness, a stomach that had not quite made peace with the night before. I tried different things. I adjusted what I ate in the evenings. I paid attention to timing. Some things helped a little. Nothing helped consistently.

Until I started doing something very small, very simple, every other evening before bed.

Teami Tea and Manuka Honey

I found the Teami Colon Cleanse Tea in my search for something that would actually work. I had heard that teas could help — but none really had before. So one night I made a cup, stirred in a generous spoonful of Manuka honey, and drank it slowly on the couch while winding down after dinner — watching a show with my husband, that quiet hour before it was time to actually get ready for bed. That timing worked well for me. The tea tends to do its work somewhere between ten and thirteen hours later, so drinking it in the evening means your morning is when things move — which is exactly what you want.

The Manuka honey I stir in is not just for taste — though it does make the cup feel like a little treat. Manuka has genuine antimicrobial properties that have been used for centuries to soothe and support the digestive tract. It helps calm inflammation in the gut lining, supports the good bacteria your digestion relies on, and has a gentleness to it that ordinary honey simply does not have. For a stomach that has been through a great deal, that kind of quiet, consistent support makes a real difference. It is worth spending a little more on a good one — look for the UMF or MGO rating on the label, because that is what tells you the potency is real.

One thing I will say clearly: do not use it every day. It will have the opposite effect, and that is not a pleasant situation — especially if you need to leave the house. Every other evening is the rhythm that works for me, and it is worth respecting.

Before You Even Get Out of Bed

The other thing I do — and this costs nothing — is keep a large glass of water on my nightstand. Room temperature. About 14 to 15 ounces. And before I do anything else in the morning, before I check my phone, before I put my feet on the floor, I drink it all down in one go.

It sounds simple because it is. But that single glass does something remarkable. It wakes up your organs. It gets everything moving. It signals to your body that the day is beginning and that it is time to start working. After a night of the tea doing its quiet work, that water is what completes the picture — it is the gentle push that gets your digestion going before you have eaten a single thing.

And then — only then — I make my morning coffee. The one I have written about here. Your stomach is awake, your body is ready, and that first cup lands so much better for it.

The next morning was different.

Not dramatically. Not in a way I could point to and say — there, that is the thing. But quieter. Easier. My stomach had settled overnight in a way it had not been doing. I felt less like I was starting the day already behind.

I kept doing it. Every other evening, the same thing — a cup of Teami, a spoonful of Manuka honey, drunk slowly and without rushing. And the mornings kept being gentler.

Why It Works (At Least for Me)

I am not a doctor and I would never claim to be. But I have done enough reading to understand a little of what might be happening.

Manuka honey is not ordinary honey. It has well-documented antimicrobial properties — it has been used for centuries to soothe the digestive tract, reduce inflammation, and support the gut lining. For a stomach that has been through a great deal, that kind of gentle, consistent support matters.

The Teami blend works alongside it — supporting the body's natural cleansing process overnight, so that by morning, things have had a chance to move through and settle. It is not harsh. It does not disrupt. It simply helps things along, quietly, while you sleep.

Together, they have become one of the most reliable things in my evening routine.

This Is for the Women Who Are Years Out

If you are in your forties or fifties, if your body has been through pregnancy and birth and everything that came after — if you have had surgeries, recoveries, long stretches of just getting on with it — and if your digestion has never quite felt the same since, I want you to know that you are not imagining it.

Rebuilding a body like ours is not a straight line. It is not one supplement, one habit, one morning ritual. It is a collection of small, consistent acts of care — each one a piece of a larger whole. This evening tea is one of mine. Not the answer. One part of the answer.

Your gut is connected to everything. To your hormones, your sleep, your mood, your energy. When it is unsettled, everything feels harder. And when it is calm — even just a little calmer — the whole day shifts. That is why this particular piece matters to me, even within the bigger picture.

Something as small as a cup of tea before bed can be part of that journey. Not a cure. Not a fix. But a ritual of care that your body notices and, over time, responds to.

What I Use

The Teami Colon Cleanse Tea is the one I come back to — the lemon flavour is what I reach for most. It is gentle, it does not cause cramping, and after a while it stops feeling like something you are doing for your health and starts feeling like something you simply look forward to.

The Teami is designed as a 30-day programme. I follow it, but I also give my body a little breathing room in between before starting over. On the nights I am not using it, I keep the Traditional Medicinals Smooth Move tea nearby — but only if I need it. And by that I mean if things are really backed up and the every-other-night Teami did not quite finish the job. It is a little stronger, so I treat it as the backup rather than the routine.

The Manuka honey I stir in is the New Zealand Honey Co. UMF 20+ | MGO 829+ — ConsumerLab approved, which means the potency on the label is the potency in the jar. Manuka is worth spending a little more on. The UMF or MGO rating is what separates the real thing from ordinary honey dressed up in nice packaging.

My Aarke kettle has made this ritual even better. I can set the exact temperature I want, which matters more than people realise — herbal teas should never be made with a full rolling boil. It strips the delicate properties from the herbs. Around 80–85°C is what I use, and it keeps everything gentle and effective. The Aarke also happens to be beautiful, which matters when something is sitting on your counter every day.

And the mug. I use my Black Coffee Mug Set with Gold Handles — the same ones from my morning photos. Glossy black ceramic, gold handles, cream interior. There is something about holding a beautiful cup that makes a ritual feel deliberate rather than just habitual. Even a quiet Tuesday evening feels a little more considered for it.

It is a small thing. But after everything your body has been through, small things done consistently are often the ones that matter most.

If you are navigating this season of life and finding your way back to feeling well — I see you. It takes longer than anyone tells you. Be patient with yourself, and be kind to your body. It has done a great deal.
