A Cut, Care and Pampered Hair — but Not as You Think

A torn tire, a beloved hairdresser, and the two overnight hair treatments that changed everything — a reflection on gratitude, giving, and the small rituals that restore us.

A Cut, Care and Pampered Hair — but Not as You Think

Sometimes it just happens.

Someone mended the brick divider between our driveways and suddenly there was a sharp corner. And let me tell you — I am the hardest one on myself. I usually do not curse. But with one of my daughters, grown though she is, I almost said the F-word. It came out as F-it.

The fixed corner of the super low wall was sharp as a knife and I did not see it. I was in a hurry. I know. I know. There is no excuse — but I tore the whole side of my tire and rim.

And in all of this, I am happy it was just a tire. Not the car. (I have to say — I love my car, and they do not make them anymore.) No one was hurt, so I am good.

What really matters

I borrowed my husband's truck and drove to my hairdresser. I truly love her — you can find her here. Such a beautiful person, inside and out.

So my little accident is nothing — nothing — compared to what other people experience in life. Where homes get destroyed and insurance takes time. Where good people are pushed through really, really hard times.

I have to say again that I am truly grateful for the life I live. With all my own struggles, and everything my family has been through — individually and together — I am still so fortunate.

Please, if you can and you know someone in need, do not be afraid to give. Do not ask if they need help. It could be food, a towel, some extra money to pay bills, clothes to wear.

I have learned — from being there too — that the only thing one has left in those moments is pride. And pride keeps you from asking for help, even when you need it desperately.

I have been fortunate with family and extended family and family friends who helped me. So when something severe happens to people I know, I give if I am in a place to do so. Or I share my meal with them.

Seeing her made me count my blessings

Seeing my hairdresser made me think about how blessed I am. How my husband makes our lives blessed and secure. I love him and I am grateful and honored to call him my husband and my one.

Keep paying goodness forward. It makes the world a better place.

My hairdresser cares for me as well, and she always gives me the best treatments. (Yes, I have one in Europe too that I love just as much — though I have not seen her for a couple of years.) Both of them have noticed that my hair gets really dry.

And ask for the special KÉRASTASE mask with massage. It was so pleasant — and so, so good for your hair.

And their care ended up with me finding and using a combination — a mix of two wonderful products that I leave in overnight.

The overnight ritual that changed my hair

They truly make wonders.

I mix the Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil — Leave-In Night Treatment with the KÉRASTASE Chronologiste Overnight Youth Serum and apply them together before bed. By morning, my hair is softer, stronger, and has a luminosity I had not seen in years.

Both products are extraordinary on their own. Together, they are something else entirely.

The Oribe Gold Lust is deeply nourishing — it wraps each strand in warmth and the signature Oribe scent makes the whole ritual feel like a luxury. The KÉRASTASE Chronologiste works at the root of aging hair, restoring vitality and softness with every use.

I leave them in overnight and wake up to hair that feels genuinely transformed.

To the young ones out there

Go for what you want. You will hear a thousand no's — but when you get your chance, be the absolute best version of yourself in whatever you are assigned to do.

Bring the coffee. Care for the customers. Learn how to wash hair at the salon, or prep for the hairdresser — neatly, professionally, with full attention. No matter how small the task seems, it is your chance to prove yourself.

Do it with everything you have. Do it with genuine ambition.

Because the people who notice are always watching — and they remember the ones who showed up with heart.

Go for it, girl. Keep owning it.

It is so refreshing to see. Both my own girls and others — like my hairdresser's assistant, who walked in one day and said she wanted to work there after discovering them on Instagram. Humble, caring, and professional. That is exactly it. That is the combination that opens doors.

And for you who live in the neighborhood of Newport, CA — do visit this hair colorist and her assistant. 🤍
